It’s not my fault! Honest!

I believe that there is absolutely nothing worse, or more disheartening, than when you’d spent two days trying to debug a piece of code. You’ve convinced yourself your wrong, even though you know your right, as at the end of it all it turns out to be a bug in your IDE/compiler which they release a patch for 30 minutes after you’ve finished coding a laborious work around.

I really could scream right now!

Thought of the Day

Okay.. this is truly the sign of a mind that has teetered of the coil of normalcy and plunged headlong into the cesspit of immoral thoughts. When I saw an article on /. titled “Crack Found in Shuttle Tank“, my first reaction was, “Damn! They let druggies work on the shuttle!”.

On a side note, I’ve still got around 70 invites for Yahoo 360. You know what to do if you want one!

48 hour Blogathon

I just received this email from Edrei Zahari of Kamigoroshi.net.

Edrei is currently in hour 17 of a 48 hours Blogathon. He’s doing 1 post an hour for the next 48 hours. Drop along and give him some support…

Heya…

Well what can I say about it. It’s a blogathon unlike any most bloggers have heard off before. While standard blogathons last about 24 hours. I’m taking it a little bit further…I’m taking it to 48 hours. It’s pretty much has standard blogathon rules which is to post every hour for as long as the blogathon lasts.

The thing is…I have absolutely no idea why I’m doing this. I’ve done a 24 hour blogathon before on New Years Eve and New Years day so I thought I might as well fire it up again. Plus in a way this is to commemorate the renewal of my domain name for the first time since I bought it.

Lastly…it’s because I have nothing to do and what better way for a blogger to spend his time than blogging right?

So I hope that it entertains you. It’s going to be a long time more before this ends so I guess wish me luck.

Thanks.

So what are you waiting for drop along to Kamigoroshi.net now!

6 million have listened to podcasts? I think NOT!

I don’t care what the pew internet survey says, there’s no way that 6 million Americans have listened to podcasts There’s no way the numbers are even close to that. Just think about it for a moment. It pretty much follows that the majority of podcasters and people who listen to podcasts are bloggers right? Then why is it that even bloggers I know have no idea what a podcast is?

Never mind that, but a lot of the people I know have a hard time syncing their Mp3 Players, and certainly wouldn’t be savvy enough to try using other software to download a podcast and have it sync to their player automatically.

Damn, half the computer users I know haven’t even mastered “drag and drop”, or “alt+tab”, yet 6 million of them have listened to podcasts!

Yep, I can smell it from here.

Ringo

Ringo is an interesting new service from Monster Worldwide, Inc. It is essentially little more than an online address book, but what makes it note worthy, is the comprehensive import features it has, which allow you to import contacts from MSN, Hotmail, GMail and AOL. Once it’s grabbed the addresses from you accounts it compares them to existing Ringo members, and if people aren’t already a member it allows you to send out an invite to them, so they can enter their own information. This is a nice touch, as it avoids the privacy issue which could be raised if you were to just dump all your contacts in an online database without the consent of those in your contacts.

The service itself is a simple and effective way for people to keep their contacts details synchronized with each other without hassle. Add to that the ability to create and share photo albums, and you get just that little bit extra incentive to use the service.

Deletion of an account is simple enough, and the Privacy Policy seems tight enough that you can feel confident that your information won’t be sold off to some third party.

Visit Ringo.

UPDATE: Alec has informed me that Ringo has been around for more than 2 years. Well, what can I say.. It’s new to me!

MGM says its OKAY to rip MP3s

They said that at the time the iPod was invented, it was clear that there were many perfectly lawful uses for it, such as ripping one s own CD and storing it in the iPod.

But they ve now conceded the contrary in open court, so if they actually win this case they ll be barred from challenging ripping in the future under the doctrine of judicial estoppel.

This comes from ZDNet article by Joe Brockmeier, talking about the MGM vs Grokster case currently going through the US Supreme Court. MGM were questioned by the Justices as to, how at the time of inventing, an inventor would know how his product might be marketed in the future. How, some of the Justices asked MGM, could the inventors of the iPod (or the VCR, or the photocopier, or even the printing press) know whether they could go ahead with developing their invention?

In reply to the question, MGM came out with the above. This, at least is some small bit of good news for us, as if MGM does win, they can no longer claim that ripping music for personal use is illegal as they have said it is okay in court! One has to wonder if this also means it is “okay” to rip DVD’s for backup, or to use other technologies to play back your DVDs on Linux.

Google gets Prefetching

On some searches, Google automatically instructs your browser to start downloading the top search result before you click on it. If you click on top result, the destination page will load faster than before.

Google uses a special prefetching feature in Firefox and Mozilla web browsers to provide this functionality, so results prefetching is not available in Internet Explorer or other web browsers. You can disable prefetching in your web browser preferences, as described in the Mozilla Prefetching FAQ. In Firefox, you can disable prefetching by doing the following:

1. Type “about:config” the address bar.
2. Scroll down to the setting “network.prefetch-next” and set the value to “False”.

With prefetching enabled, you may end up with cookies and web pages in your web browser’s cache from web sites that you did not click on since prefetching happens automatically when you view Google search results pages. You can delete these files by clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
