What I was going to say about iTunes 4.9!

I finally got a chance today to get around to catching up with the news, after spending the last two days hammering out the upgrades on Blog Resource.

I downloaded the much anticipated iTunes 4.9 with podcasting support. I did have a few points I was going to mention, however TDavid has already said most of it for me it for me!

However one thing TDavid didn’t say was that I would have liked to have seen the ability to use the “Publish Podcast” to add suggest my podcast for inclusion without having to enter my credit card details. I’m not giving my credit card details to iTunes until I am ready to make a purchase from them! Period! Nor will I give them my PayPal details until then.

Also, when it did ask me for my credit card details, the form that you fill out was hardcoded to the US addresses. I live in Denmark, so even if I had decided to input my credit card details, I wouldn’t have worked!!

Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP (Beta)

Shared computers are commonly found in schools, libraries, Internet and gaming cafés, community centers, and other locations. Often, non-technical personnel are asked to manage shared computers in addition to their primary responsibilities. Managing shared computers can be difficult, time-consuming, and expensive. Without restrictions, users can change the desktop appearance, reconfigure system settings, and introduce spyware, viruses, and other harmful programs. Repairing damaged shared computers costs significant time and effort.

User privacy is also an issue. Shared computers often use shared accounts that make Internet history, saved documents, and cached Web pages available to subsequent users.

The Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP provides a simple and effective way to defend shared computers from untrusted users and malicious software, safeguard system resources, and enhance and simplify the user experience. The Toolkit runs on genuine copies of Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.

Before you download or deploy any of this software you should be aware that it is in beta. This means that there are flaws, issues and know problems. Make sure you read the details on the download page before proceeding.

New Podcast Directory

I’ve just finished the overhaul of Blog Resource. Not only have I completely redone the theme, but I’ve added a new Podcast Directory as well. We’ve also changed the rules so that you DON’T have to be registered to submit a blog or podcast. However it may now take up to 48 hours for you link to appear in the directory as it has to be verified by an admin!

So what are you waiting for, head over and add your links now! The Podcast Directory is “virgin territory” so you’ll have very little competition for hits right now!

Apple sued over iTunes interface?

Apple are being sued over the User Interface on iTunes!

What more proof do we need that software patents are the worst and stupidest idea since attaching your nuts to a table with a nail gun and trying to go for a run.

Technorati do listen!

It appears that Technorati do listen. Now I can get things back to the way they were.

New Technorati Box to obtrusive?

Ever since I’ve been using Technorati I’ve been happy to have the link back to their service that they require to “claim” your blog. However, I must say that, the new “box” which they have implemented is a disaster. I don’t want the big green Technorati image in my side bar. The old link system was much better, and I would like to be able to give my visitors the ability to link view my Technorati profile, however, using their box I’m unable to do that unless I display the image as well. I can turn the box off, but then both Technorati and I loose. They loose a link and the possibility of someone signing up for their service and my visitors loose the service.

I know Technorati deserve recognition for their service, and I want to give it to them. But they don’t need to take up so much of my sites screen “real estate”. I know I could simply put a link up to my profile myself, but it’s pointless when Technorati already have their “box” embedded in my site so that I can claim my blog.

I’m sorry Technorati, but until you change this I’m going to have to leave the box “invisible” on my sites.

The Apple Tablet PC

Well, I was chatting to Brian about this only a couple of days ago, and said that some “enthusiasts” would get OSX running on other platforms soon. We were also wondering how lonk it will take before OSX appears on P2P ready to go on Intel boxes..

Well sooner that we expected OSX is running on a Tablet PC of all things.

An Avalanche waiting to happen?

Or is it. While this new p2p approach from Microsoft certainly sounds better than bittorrent, I can’t help feeling that unless MS do something to ensure that DRM is enabled in the system, that they’ll make a whole bunch of enemies is Hollywood and with other software companies.

The Register has a good break down of how it works, but if you want the tech details you can get them here (pdf).

Sidebar issue fixed

There was a problem with the code which made the sidebar appear beneath all the post entries when this blog was viewed in Internet Exploder. I wasn’t aware of it until today, and I don’t know how long it’s been like that, but needless to say it’s now been resolved.
