IE7b2 UI Issues. Basically it sucks!

Daniel Glazman has posted his report on IE7b2’s UI Issues.

In terms of UI, this IE 7 beta 2 certainly does not feel like a beta, id est something not far away from final version. The whole UI seems unpolished and is sometimes very inconsistent.

It really seems the graphics design – and even more iconography – is done without general direction, reusing bits coming from elsewhere, without graphical charter.

Overall, and if I compare Firefox 1.0 or Firefox 1.5 and IE7b2, Firefox is far ahead of IE in terms of usability, accessibility, extensibility.

Shame is, that he’s right! Here’s what Chris Pirillo had to say about it:

Here’s the problem with Daniel Glazman’s IE7b2 UI report: he’s spot-on. Major “ouches” to Microsoft. I didn’t want to agree with him, given that he hasn’t quite developed a killer experience in NVU – but he’s really right, and it’s really sad:

My guess is that when IE7 goes gold, more people will be driven to start using Firefox. Thank *GOD* for Maxthon.

Says it all really!

Porn causes brain damage!

Biased media reporting, so called “experts”, and just plain uptight, socially stunted, prudes combine to come up with the obviously retarded conclusion that pornogoraphy causes brain damage.

Chalk one more down for the ignorant of the universe! I thought the only side-effect of “excessive” porn consumption was possible carpal tunnel and unusually large biceps.

More OS choices for Mac than just XP!

TheWeeklyRant.com has pictures of Ubuntu Linux loading on Macs using the Boot Camp tool released by Apple to load XP.

I still find myself wondering what the benefits of this are for Apple. I know Dvorak thinks that Apple is going to drop OSX, and this would seam to be a step in that direction by getting people used to the idea of Windows on Mac.

But something doesn’t feel right here.

The only company this really benefits is Microsoft, as the (always stylish) Mac hardware is now another source of potential revenue via OS sales.

I know there are people out there who really wanted to be able to get Windows applications running on the Mac so that they could completely convert to that platform. To be honest, I would be hard pressed not to move to Macs if Windows apps would run natively, but dual booting is just not an incentive for me.

Dual booting is just doesn’t provide the required motivation that natively running applications would because generally I care more about the cost of a computer than I do the aesthetics of it (I’m not saying they’re into important, just less so).

Now, if I can run XP on cheaper hardware and do the job I need, then I’m not going to fork out the cash to run XP on expensive Apple hardware just for the ability to be able to us OSX which doesn’t offer me the functionality I require.

I was going to say that Apples move here is a prelude to making OS X available for all PC’s and competing with Microsoft on the standard WinTel platforms. But that notion still leaves me confused, because, if there going to do this, then why jeopardise potential sales on their own platform.

It certainly is a mystery as to Apple true intentions, but at least it will be interesting to watch this unfold.

Han and Chewbacca. Adult Star Wars arrives.

Okay, so it’s another April 1st prank, but Locas Online is running a piece on the new line of authorised “Adult” Star Wars novels.

Actually I think these would hold a lot of promise. I bet there is not a single person out there who didn’t think of “alternative” uses for the Jedi mind trick. :)
