Yes! I finally found the driver for that blasted webcam! I searched for hours on the web but couldn’t find anything except 2 forum posts by the same guy also looking for drivers for the camera.
My mate eventually tracked down the original cd driver disk to the camera in his house. It was one of those mini-cd’s and funnily enough it actually is a disk for MSN Messenger 6.2.
The disc confirms that the camera is a Microsoft product, yet I was unable to find any mention of it anywhere on Microsofts sites.
Anyway, once I’d installed the drivers from the disk, I then did a search for updated versions on the web. That was pointless as there aren’t any.
Anyway, if you have one of these cameras, a VIMICRO USB PC 301x, then you can download a set of drivers from here (link removed). Windows XP will complain that the drivers haven’t been digitally signed, but you can just install them anyway and they’ll work. Just remember to restart after installation.
UPDATE: 28/07/2009 – Here’s a link to the drivers on the Vimicro site, and here’s a direct link a detection tool (.Zip file) to allow you download the correct version of the drivers.

Stop linking to that DAMNED site. It only links to another site that forces you to pay for the fucking drivers.
Try being useful, you twit.
Stop being a prick Kevin and be useful instead of moaning.
When I first linked to that page I don’t believe you had to pay for the drivers.
Even if you did, it’s only $2 and it’s the only place I’ve found a driver for the webcam on the web.
So, if you’ve got a better link then post it, otherwise, get lost!
Instead of moaning how about being productive eh?
You’re a brave man to come here and give out while hiding behind your fake email address!
yea you gotta pay £2 for it now i know it aint much but the camera only cost£1 hehehe so you can understand the moral of it lol, if any1 can find the driver for free id much appreciate a link being sent
thanks

I did everything you guys said but the mic still doesn’t work at all. Can anyone help me out with this issue?
Thanks a lot.
Fabiano, there is no microphone in my model and the bext working drivers so far are these ones posted by Bearpig
http://www.pomax.hk/download/drivers/301x.zip
They’re just for the chipset so I don’t know if they’ll work if your version has a mic.
Keep subscribed to this thread, maybe somebody else will find drivers for the model with a mic.
Paul
lol its called turn ya friggin mic settings off mute in ya volume control and make sure jack is plugged in … will work no sweat if settings not on mute
Thanks for the comment misspunky, but please try to be helpful .. To get to this point I’m sure Fabiano has tried something as obvious as making sure the mute is off and checking the jack is in.
Thanks All !!!

THANK YOU. I searched for hours as well after thinking that it would be a good idea to get this cheap webcam. My computer, being windows, naturally failed and I ended up with some SN9 bull. Thank you so much.

Second I checked the Chipset on My VI Micro Cam and its a VCO305 i have tried hundreds of Drivers and only got it to work once by useing 2 diferent sets of drivers together dont ask me how i did it i cant remember i wish i could.
Anyway anyone else have the VCO305 drivers that work My Cam is black has 6 lights on the front that are Light sensitive and a Mic if that helps Windows detects it as a 301x but if i take it apart it says VCO305 on the chip and none of the 301x drivers work
thanx Paul for the Blog i have been looking for a year and have yet to get this damn thing working
Peace
I am really annoyed on the freaking sound/ music the camera software (AMCAP) does when you launch it. How do I disable it? Please help… Thanks…
You can find the driver on vimicro site via this link http://www.vimicro.com/english/product/pc003.htm there is an little tool there also that will query your cam and link you to the one you need for your cam
Hi, I have the VIMICRO PC 301X.
I like very much the macro capability of that little low cost unit, beat the hell of many expensive and sophisticated photo-cameras as Canon, Nikon and others. I basically use the camera for very close up of electronic circuits.
To take pictures I use Corel PhotoPaint and acquire picture. The problem is that the screen capture resolution open always with 240×320 and I always need to go to configuration and reset it to 640×480. I already made a long research, including scanning Windows registry trying to find out where is setup the default 320×240, without any result.
Is there any idea where we can change it?
The Corel PhotoPaint has nothing to do with it, since the same screen appears when launching the manufacturer lame capture screen executable program.
Thank you
Paul,
I blogged a few years back as I had the same camera and, having lost the driver disc, I could only find that bloody dowan site (even got a message from the site admin complaining that she had to pay for her hosting somehow and she couldn't afford to host the (tiny!) file – how tightfisted must she be?! If I ran a web site which became wildly popular, I'd just stick some ads up to pay for it! Some people just don't get the interwebs.)
Anyway, I blogged separately about this camera and its troublesome drivers, and included a link to Vimicro's own site where they had a driver detection and download utility: http://kerblam.co.uk/2008/01/vimicro-usb-pc-camer…
I notice from Google Analytics that my own post from 2008 still gets a LOT of traffic, and your site ranks more highly than mine. The final irony is that the dead-teddybears.com site is actually no longer around – it's being cybersquatted! So your original post's link is now obsolete. Could you (for the sake of the interwebs) update your original post with a newer, functional link?
All the best
Christopher
I've just updated the post Christopher. The dead-teddybears link has been removed, a link to the new drivers has been added as well as link to a driver detection tool to ensure folks download the correct drivers.
Thanks for letting me know the original link was down
Man, you are an ASS! The camera software is NOT available ANYWHERE. Get a seperate Mic for the camera to work correctly! The camera is put out by a buch of crooked chineese and Americans who make big buck fucking the public and YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM by saying there is a fix!!!! Asshole!!!!!!!!!
so with that why dont you close your site!!!!!!! It suck and so do YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasted 4 hours following your advice. What a fuckimng asshole
Heinz good to see that you are yet another prick with the inability to read and a massive “my penis is tiny so I must act like a major prick” complex.
This post was originally written in 2006. Then updated in 2009 to reflect a new location for the drivers.
So I’ll tell you what, either open your eyes and pay attention to what you are reading or invest in a puncture repair kit so you can actually get some from your blow up friend!
BTW invest in a spell checker!
Heinz, so you invested 4 hours of your
time to save a $2 camera?
Congratulations. It means your time
cost around fifty cents per hour.
none of these links works anymore.. please someone help me the driver is needed!!!!!!!
Vinny, I just checked the updated links at the end of the post (the 2009 Update) and the links worked fine for me.
can you please show me where it is i cant find it cheers mate
Right there are the bottom mate – in the “updated” section. You’ll want to use the chip detection tool first.
Hey man, was in the process of using the chip detector file, when AVG pops up telling me its a dangerous trojan horse virus. Bit concerned. I deleted it. Are you sure this file is safe?
Hey Alex. All I can surmise is that it’s an AVG problem as the chip detector comes directly from Vimicro, That’s just a link to the file on their site and it can be found on the same page as the drivers.
Yeah, went out on a limb and just completed the process anyway like a day after or something. Worked perfectly. Thank you my good man.
