Spam your mates with Google Reader.

2007 May 3

Okay it’s a tongue in cheek title, but while the ability to email articles to folks on your GMail address book from within Google Reader I can’t help but feel that I’m going to end up getting tones of email for stories that I’ve already read being sent to me.

I already get a ton of those stupid emails people send around to co-workers with daft jokes or pictures of baby chickens and babies in them. If I get half the volume of news stories emailed to me via Google Reader I think I’ll crack.

Here’s the thing, for me at least, most of the people using Google Reader and other RSS subscription services are early adopters with some interest in technology.

They may not be geeks, but they’re more advanced than your average Joe Soap.

These people are already getting the same news I am via their feeds, Techmeme, BlogRovr, Tailrank, and a hundred other places.

Do they need me to email them what they’ve probably already read? I don’t think so.

If it’s important or news worthy the chances are it’s appeared in their feeds already!

I’m not against this feature. Far from it! I think it’s a good and welcome addition!

I’m sure it will come in handy sometime.

I’m sure a LOT of people will get a LOT of use from it and as a result I’ll get increasingly frustrated every time I look at my inbox. ;)

It’s nice to see the Google Reader team raising the game and continuing to improve my favorite online aggregator.

Keep up the good work guys…
