Tucker And Dale Vs The Crescent Theater, Mobile

Sara and I are huge “Tucker & Dale vs Evil” fans and have been pimping it ever since we first saw an unfinished work print. The movie has won a bunch of awards since it’s release and has even more nominations but for some reason it couldn’t get distribution here in the U.S. Needless to say we were very excited to hear that it was showing in the independent Crescent Theater here in Mobile and made a point of going seeing it.

We get a lot of deals through Fandango so go to the cinema quite a bit, but iwe’ve never gone to an independent theater in the U.S. together (mostly because they don’t do Fandango), but I must say that the experience of going to the Cresent Theater was worth every penny.

Compared to other cinemas in the area, the experience of going to this one screen little theater is far, far better and not just because you can buy Guinness there!

The guy who owns the place is super friendly and you can tell he’s proud of his cinema.

I didn’t catch his name but I think it’s Max and he adds a personal touch to everything, right down to personally introducing the film, telling the audience how long it’s going to be and thanking everyone for coming.

There’s something about a guy who treats his patrons with respect trusting that they’ll treat him the same way. He worked the little refreshments area before we went into the theater and when he introduced the film to everyone he told us all that if we wanted something to just go out and get it. Settling up would be done after the show.

That’s a very different customer relationship than you get anywhere else.

And the seats, did I mention the seats. Tonight we sat in big leather recliners, that you can kick the foot rest out on and watch the movie with a big screen experience but the comfort of your own couch. It’s awesome.

So basically what I’m saying is this – Tucker & Dale vs Evil is playing in the Cresent Theater Mobile until the 20th of this month. If you get the chance, go see it because not only will you see a truly awesome horror-comedy film but you’ll get a cinema experience that you just don’t get at any of the larger theaters.

  1. That sounds like an awesome theater. I wanted to do something like that 15 years ago but then realized that you have to have things like money and experience to open a theater of that nature. I think there is a market for theater experiences like that. I know I am willing to pay more to have a good theater, good seats, and ushers who remove people that ruin the experience. How much are the tickets?

I truly miss the days when my wife and I would spend our weekends at the movies. We’ll get back to it once our daughter gets older, but it is the one thing that we had to give up when we had out daughter. Thank the FSM for big screen TVs and Blu-Ray!
