What A Week

I love weeks like this, where everything unexpectedly starts to come together.

Sara and I have been plugging away at out pet project, humor site Daily Shite, for months now. We’ve been watching it grow slowly and celebrating as we’ve hit various milestones. We’ve watched with pride and more than a fair few glasses of wine (to celebrate the occasion) as 100 views a day went past, then a 1000, then 5000, 10000 and 20000. We whooped and cheered like we’d one the lottery when we broke our first 50000 day, and last night we sat back in sheer amazement as we soared beyond our first 100000 (one hundred thousand) day.

This post isn’t to pimp out Daily Shite although you really should visit and join the Facebook page while you’re at it. It’s to say thank you.

Thank you to everyone who has visited, stumbled and dugg posts, retweeted us and pimped us to their friends. To our authors for their contributions and to our readers and friends who have been emailing and sending contributions via IM.

Most of all I want to thank Sara. She’s done a ton of work behind the scenes, not just putting up posts and pimping Daily Shite left, right and center and deserves more credit than I for us hitting this milestone.

Now, bring on our next challenge – the 200000 day ;)

One month out…

It’s exactly a month since I set my Irish backside on a flight from Copenhagen to Dublin in order to begin on a new course in my life.

I must say that while the last few weeks have been damn hard they’ve also been exciting with the realization of a new future and new opportunities.

Since I’ve been back in Cork I’ve had the opportunity to catch up with old friends, to reestablish links with family that I haven’t seen in ages and even to add another position to my ever growing list of current job titles.

For those of you who aren’t members of Fuelmyblog (and why aren’t you?) you may have missed that I became the “Sales & Community Development Manager” for FMB at the beginning of the month.

As we’re a month out, I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everybody who has made my returning to Ireland as comfortable, smooth and enjoyable as possible.

I’m not going to get into naming names here, but thank you, to each and every one of you.

I look forward to spending as much time as possible with you all before I head off for my next destination!

Settling in

I’ve been here in Ireland for the last two and a bit days and just wanted to let you all know how things are going since I left Denmark.

Since I’ve gotten here it’s been really great to catch up with all the friends I haven’t seen for so long and of course to get to spend time with my family.

I’m staying at my brothers house. He (his long suffering girlfriend and their insane hyperactive dog), among many other friends and family members, was kind enough to offer me a place to stay until I move on again from Ireland.

I cannot express how thankful and grateful I am for all the support which has been shown to me by everyone since I arrived.

I also want to thank all of you guys for all of the messages of support which you have left on the blog , emailed me and to those of you who picked up the phone or Skype.

Normal blogging service will return on this blog very soon. I’m reasonably settled in now and once the weekend is over I’ll be able to get back to work.

For the time being I have a new mobile number as I no longer have my Danish phone numbers. It’s 00353 (0)85 2716228 for anybody that feels like meeting up, hanging out or just wants a natter.

Again, thanks to everybody for their support.

I’ll keep you all up to date and get the supply lines of information and blog posts open as soon as possible.

And I’m back :)

Well it took a few (hectic) days but I’m back and the O’Flaherty blog is back as well with a new tag line and a new look.

First things first, the new tag line is "Paul O’Flaherty on Technology, Life and Passion", and I’m not going to get into the reasons behind changing that other than to say I want to expand the scope of this blog.

If you do feel the need for a little more information as to why I want to expand the scope of the blog then feel free to check out "Time for a change".

The sharp eyed among you (and those not reading this in a feed reader) will have noticed that the site has been redesigned.

The redesign is not finished yet, so you can can expect some bugs an inconsistencies which I will get ironed out over the next 24 – 36 hours. I just couldn’t have my site offline any longer so I decided to come back on with a 95% complete design. That may not be the best idea but I didn’t want O’Flaherty to be offline any longer than necessary.

The new design is a modified version of "StudioPress Orange" which I have been hacking away at for the past few days and will continue to hammer at until I am happy with it.

While the default version of StudioPress is great, I feel that it was very much an unfinished theme. Especially with regards to things like placement and styling of tags.

You can expect to see many subtle changes happen to the theme over the next 24 hours (once I wake up in the morning) until I have it setup just the way I want it.

This new design and new tag line marks a new direction for this blog.

I will continue to provide plenty of tech news and coverage because it is one thing I am passionate about. However, I will now be covering other topics that I am passionate about as I feel that will give a better representation of who I am as a person.

Plus, I hate being pigeon holed into a niche.

Thank you to the entire community of O’Flaherty readers who have stuck with me this far. I look forward to making this blog even better and making it more topically diverse.

Thanks everybody.

Paul
