This post is in two parts. First in English and then again the same thing (I hope) in Danish!

I’m just finished listening to “Kaffeklubben” “or Coffee Club” on P1 (a Danish radio station) where they talked about the recent Krak thing. While I’m grateful that they covered the story and had a soundbite from Per, I’m a bit disgruntled for two reasons.

Reason 1 – The least important

The first and least important is because they obviously didn’t do any research before talking about me.

My About Me page on this blog makes it clear who I am, what nationality I am and what I do.

On Kaffeklubben this morning, I was not mentioned by name,  but I was referred to as an English guy who lives with Per. Now, this is SO obviously wrong!

I mean come on, I know a lot of Danish people don’t immediately see the difference between being English and Irish, but let’s see how you would all react if I was calling you all Swedish instead of Danish when writing about you ;). It’s a national pride thing. There is nothing wrong with Sweden or England, but Danish people aren’t Swedish and Irish people aren’t English.

As for the “living with Per” thing. Well, come one.. my contacts page has my address which is very different from Pers. We may live in the same area, but that’s not living together. Besides, I’m sure Ex would have a thing or two to say if I decided to move out of here and down to Pers place (as would his wife for that matter). 😉

Reason 2 – Giving credit

Now for the important thing. Kaffekubben is also available as a Podcast and as such it has show notes.

Forgetting the “English guy who lives with Per”, there was no link given to Pers website. They talked about everything for a good few minutes, but never gave attribution to the site it was all about. They didn’t mention the sites address in the show and they didn’t link to it on their show notes.

That’s not good form folks.

But it’s not just Kaffekubben. Recently it’s been all over the net when it comes to online publications and some A-list bloggers not linking to the sites that originally broke the story and giving credit where credit is due.

It’s just common courtesy folks. There’s no cost involved. Per deserved a link from Kaffekubbens show notes. I’m sad to see he didn’t get it, especially when a lot of talk on the show this morning was about email etiquette. Well linking to back in your show notes is blog and podcast etiquette.

Per fortjener at få link fra kaffeklubbens show notes.

  2. I am very sorry I called you “vistnok engelsk” (“English, I think”) on Danish National Radio.

The reason why I did not do thorough research on your background is that I was a guest on the programme and I was told that there would be an interview with Per Kaarup before I was asked to give my opinion on the case. I thought Per would tell that part of the story. Instead, as it happened, I became responsible for recounting almost the whole story by memory, and therefore I had no chance to do research on your background. It was the best I could do in the situation, but obviously not good enough.

  3. Hi Torben,

Thanks for your comment, but there is really no need for you to apologize. I thought being called English was funny..

I was however, annoyed with P1 for not liking back to Per as they should have. Which is also something that had nothing to do with you.

I would also like to thank you, because I think you did a great job of representing the issue.

    Take care.

    Oh, I’m subscribed btw 😉
